When Do You Need MOJ-Certified Legal Translation?
MOJ-certified legal translation is required whenever a foreign-language document is submitted to UAE government authorities, courts, immigration departments, licensing bodies, banks, or regulatory institutions. The most common situations include:
- Family visa and spouse visa applications
- Birth certificate and child visa processing
- Marriage certificate submission to GDRFA or ICP
- Degree certificate use for MOHRE, Golden Visa, DHA, DOH or equivalency
- Police clearance certificate submission
- Dubai Courts, Notary Public, POA and legal cases
- Banking, property, corporate and free zone submissions
Note: Translations Done Outside the UAE Are Rejected
A common and costly mistake: bringing a translation from your home country and submitting it to a UAE authority. French traducteur assermenté translations, German Beglaubigte Übersetzungen, apostille-legalized translations, and all other foreign-certified translations are rejected by UAE courts and government departments. UAE law requires that legal translations must be performed by a translator licensed by the UAE Ministry of Justice. There are no exceptions. The document will be returned and you will need to pay for re-translation by a UAE MOJ licensed translator. Call us on 056 462 5222 before you travel with documents.
Legal Translation by Document Type
Every document type has specific authority requirements in the UAE. The sections below cover what is legally required, the correct attestation sequence, and the deadlines that carry financial penalties.
Personal Document Translation
Highest urgency · 120-day deadline
Birth Certificate Translation Dubai
Official UAE Government requirement (u.ae): To issue a birth certificate, the hospital or health authority requires an attested Arabic-translated marriage certificate if the marriage certificate is in any language other than Arabic. The marriage certificate translation must therefore be completed before the birth certificate can be processed.
After the birth certificate is issued, residents have 120 days from birth to complete the full documentation process: birth certificate, home-country passport, Emirates ID, and UAE residence visa. If the residence visa is not finalised within 120 days, a fine of AED 100 per day accrues and the child cannot legally exit the UAE.
- GDRFA Dubai dependent child visa applications require MOJ-certified Arabic translation
- ICP service centres in Sharjah, Ajman, RAK, Fujairah, and UAQ require the same
- KHDA Dubai and ADEK Abu Dhabi school enrolment
- Emirates ID registration for the child
- DHA and MOHAP health insurance enrolment
For a foreign-born child being sponsored into the UAE, the correct sequence is: attest the birth certificate in the country of origin first, home ministry, UAE embassy, MOFA UAE, then MOJ Arabic translation in Dubai. GloboPrime manages both steps as one package. Birth certificates from India, Pakistan, Philippines, UK, USA, Egypt, Lebanon, and 120+ countries covered.
Most common · GDRFA mandatory since Dec 2018
Marriage Certificate Translation Dubai
An MOJ-certified Arabic translation of any foreign marriage certificate is mandatory for spouse visa applications, joint bank account opening, adding a spouse to health insurance, school enrolment for children, property purchase in joint names, and any UAE court or legal proceeding involving marital status.
Critical: Name matching causes most GDRFA rejections. The name spelling on the marriage certificate must exactly match the passport. A single character difference triggers rejection. GloboPrime performs a pre-translation name audit and flags all discrepancies before work begins.
We translate civil, court, church, religious, and nikah nama marriage certificates from 120+ countries. Combined with marriage certificate attestation as one package when required.
Driving Licence Translation
RTA Dubai · Abu Dhabi Traffic Dept
Driving Licence Translation for RTA Exchange
An MOJ-certified Arabic translation of your foreign driving licence is required for RTA Dubai and Abu Dhabi Traffic Department licence exchange. This applies even to licences from countries with direct exchange privileges, including UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and others.
RTA-specific terminology: Licence categories A, B, C, D, E must be translated using the exact Arabic terminology that RTA’s system recognises. Wrong categories cause instant rejection.
Driving licences from India, Pakistan, Egypt, UK, USA, Philippines, and all other countries translated. Combined with driving licence attestation where required by RTA.
Education & Employment Document Translation
MOHRE · Golden Visa · DOH · DHA
Degree & Diploma Certificate Translation Dubai
MOJ-certified Arabic translation of degree certificates, diplomas, and academic transcripts is required for MOHRE employment visa processing, Golden Visa applications, DOH and DHA healthcare professional licensing, ADEK teaching positions, Society of Engineers registration, and Ministry of Education equivalency applications.
Bachelor, Master, PhD, MBA, nursing diplomas, engineering degrees, medical degrees, and all academic qualifications covered in 50+ language pairs. Combined with degree attestation as one package.
Legal & Court Document Translation
3-month validity window · Golden Visa
Police Clearance Certificate Translation Dubai
Arabic translation of foreign police clearance certificates, good conduct certificates, and criminal clearance certificates is required for Golden Visa applications, MOHRE employment processing, DOH and DHA healthcare licensing, and security-cleared positions.
GloboPrime tracks the validity date and alerts clients if a certificate is at risk of expiring during the translation and submission process. Covers PCCs from India, UK, USA, Philippines, Pakistan, and all countries. Combined with PCC attestation as one package.
Dubai Courts · DIFC · Notary · GDRFA
Court & Legal Document Translation Dubai
Arabic translation of power of attorney documents, affidavits, wills, court judgments, divorce decrees, death certificates, and legal notices is required for Dubai Courts, ADJD, DIFC, Notary Public, GDRFA, DLD, and banks.
In UAE courts, the Arabic version of a bilingual contract takes legal precedence over the English version in case of contradiction. GloboPrime uses specialist commercial legal translators.
For foreign court judgments to be enforced through Dubai Courts or ADJD, the complete judgment must be translated, bound in A4 format, with MOJ stamp on every page.
Commercial & Corporate Document Translation
DED · ADGM · Free Zones · Banks
Commercial & Corporate Document Translation Dubai
MOJ-certified Arabic translation of MOA, AOA, trade licences, commercial contracts, NDAs, SPAs, MOUs, board resolutions, experience letters, salary certificates, NOC letters, financial statements, and certificates of origin is required for DED mainland licensing, ADGM registration, free zone applications, corporate banking KYC, government tenders, and court commercial dispute submissions.
The eDAS 2.0 system processes commercial invoices digitally for MOFA attestation. GloboPrime prepares translations formatted to eDAS 2.0 system requirements. Specialist IFRS-compliant financial translators handle audited financial statements and P&L accounts.
The Correct Order: Attestation Then Translation
The most common and costly mistake is translating a document before it has been attested. Attestation stamps must be visible on the original for the translation to be valid. If a name error appears during attestation after translation, the translation must be redone.
Example: Indian Marriage Certificate for GDRFA Spouse Visa
Certifies the document at local notary level.
State-level authentication.
Federal-level authentication now processed together since Sept 2025.
UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stamp.
GloboPrime provides the certified translation with MOJ stamp and binding.
Complete application accepted.
GloboPrime manages steps 4 and 5 locally and can coordinate the full India chain, steps 1 to 5, remotely. The same applies to UK, Philippines, Pakistan, and all other origins. The specific chain varies by country. Send the document and we confirm the correct sequence before any work begins, at no charge.

What is MOJ Certified Legal Translation?
In the UAE, “legal translation” is a protected term. It refers to translations performed exclusively by a translator licensed and registered with the UAE Ministry of Justice under the Federal Decree-Law regulating the translation profession. Only MOJ-certified translators are recognized by UAE courts, government departments, and official authorities.
What MOJ Translator Registration Requires
To be registered with the UAE Ministry of Justice, a translator must hold a recognized UAE university degree in translation or have at least 5 years of post-graduation translation experience in the required language, pass the MOJ translator registration test, obtain a certificate of good conduct, carry professional error insurance, and take an oath. Registration is renewable on a defined cycle. This ensures every MOJ-stamped translation carries legal accountability.
What a Valid MOJ Translation Contains
An MOJ certified translation includes the official circular stamp of the translator with their MOJ license number, the translator’s name in both Arabic and English, the phrase “مترجم قانوني معتمد” (Certified Legal Translator), a handwritten signature on every page, the original document and translation bound together with numbered pages, and A4 size paper. If any element is missing, the submitting authority will reject the document. GloboPrime produces translations formatted exactly to each authority’s requirements.
When Additional MOJ Stamp Certification is Required
For certain courts and high-value submissions, an additional MOJ stamp certification on the translation itself is required beyond the translator’s stamp. This is a separate authentication step at the MOJ office, distinct from the translator’s license stamp. GloboPrime manages this as part of our court document translation packages.
